Some problems that are concerning wireless routers are appearing more and more often and so many people have to deal with them all over the world that they are worth mentioning in one place.
1. I forgot the user/password used to access the router; I modified the routers address, what can I do?
If you modified the address of the router and now you can not access the configuration page in nay way, since that new address assigned by you is not store in any document and you managed to forget it, or if you have changed the access password for the Admin account and you dont seem to be able to remember it, then you have only one solution. Each router should have a button that can be used to reset it to factory setting. Once that button is pressed, all setting will be erased and go back to default.
2. The router is resetting often. What can be done?
This is a rather complex problem. At first, you should see if the router is under attack. Deactivate the ping answer on the outside. Try to reset the router or do a firmware update. If the router in not under attack and the firmware seems to be up to date, then there might be a problem with the power cord.
3. How can a wireless routers firmware be upgraded?
This is very simple to do. All that needs to be conducted is to download a new Firmware version from the producers website and not from somewhere else. After you have downloaded the firmware you should make sure the archive is not corrupted for some reason because if the upgrade is not done properly up to the end you can deteriorate the device permanently. If send in warranty, they do not fix problems caused by firmware upgrades gone badly.
4. I can not forward a wireless port.
It all depends on the routers user manual. If you can not do it according to those specifications, try allocating static or dynamic IPs.
5. If I dont use the internet for a while, it will disconnect. What can be done?
There is an option that fixes this: you can opt in to leave the router connected forever to the internet or to let it disconnect after a while.
6. Am I allowed to share the pay on my internet bill with the neighbors?
Usually not, but you must read the signed agreement. Usually you are not allowed to resell part of a service that is meant to be used by a physical person to another person.
7. Can I save the routers setting?
Many routers offer this advantage. The setting can be saved in a file on the hard disk. For more details you should refer to the user manual.

If you have already bought a wireless router, and you are very eager to connect it in order to set up the new wireless network. However, you should never skip reading the user manual, because the specific configuration setting can only be found in that. And if lets say its cold outside, leaving the new router to rest for a while will decrease the risk of creating water vapors inside its components, because of the quick temperature changes. You should never skip reading instructions, even if they seem like unnecessary.
At this point you will see you have an IP in most case that you have to introduce in the browser and from there access the routers configuration. In most router types this IP is 192.168.x.x. It will obviously differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. This address can be modified but if we forget it well have to reset the router to factory settings and then remake all settings.
The first step you will take is to configure the LAN network. It is usually simplest to use the DHCP setting that will automatically assign IPs to computers. I personally like to use static IPs, like 192.168.0.101 as an example. Anyway, the settings in the router must be corrected to match those of the network card like this:
Click Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, right click on the network card and the click Properties. Here you will select TCP/IP Properties.
The WLAN will arise some more specific problems because it is a wireless network, and that means that people around you will be able to access your network and the Internet without much hassle. We dont want that because it will cause the internet connection to work even worse and those persons might also be able to access our shared files and do bad things using our IPs for which we will be responsible. But there are many types of protections, for example encrypting (WEP, WPA, WPA2) or filtering MAC (MAC is an address, a code if you wish that is specific to any network card there are no two network cards with the same MAC)
The recommended encrypting method is one that uses both WPA2 and MAC. But pay attention because both the router and the network card have to use the same encryption methods. After these steps, you will only need to configure the Internet connection. If you have a PPPoE connection with dynamic IPs, you will choose that, then enter the user and password and connect. At this point you should have Internet on all PCs connected to the router, no matter if they are wired or wireless.

The network cable is used all over the world in offices and homes with the purpose of connecting different network devices. It is a fundamental inclusion that is required for inter device communication and data transferral. There are however a number of different types of network cable, each with a particular purpose and functionality. This article hopes to highlight some of the more common varieties of cables available on the market today.
One type of network cable uses fibre optics to transmit data and information. In the majority of cases the optical fibres are coated with plastic in order to protect them. This type of cable is not only used in computer networks, but is also used to connect audio devices to each other, allowing for the transmission of high quality audio signals.
Another form of network cable is the coaxial variety. These general electrical cables typically have a central core made from a conducting material and three layers of protections from the initial insulator, a metallic shield and a plastic protective coating. Once again these cables have uses outside the world of computers, sometimes being used for lower quality audio than optical counterparts.
Cables almost exclusively used in the world of computing are patch cables. This name refers to a cable that can be either optical or electrical, its functionality fundamentally consists of signal routing; particularly the routing of data from the internet to your computer or between computers in a network. Patch cables are often housed within panels that allow network technicians to control a number of different connections simultaneously; perfect for offices that need multiple connections to certain devices.
One form of patch cable are Ethernet crossover cables; these are used to connect computers together directly, or through a hub, router or network switch. Ethernet crossover cables come in a number of different varieties that naturally have different connections for a variety of devices. Those purchasing are always advised to thoroughly research their equipment to avoid any issues with incompatibility.
While this article has hopefully been informative, giving consumers a brief idea of what types of network cable are on the market, it is simple an introduction to the world of cabling. With so many cables available to the buyer, each with their own specific uses and capabilities, the importance of research when selecting items cannot be underestimated. On a more general point the network cable, whilst not being the most exciting of subjects, remains an important foundation of the technological world we live in.
Technology and computing expert Thomas Pretty looks at the different types of network cable that are available on the market.

Surely you have heard of a router before, as it is one of the most popular and necessary computer components. There are also wireless routers which hold many advantages over their wired counterparts. Wireless routers add a built-in access point function to a multi-port Ethernet router, which combines multiple Ethernet networks with wireless connections as well.
Hacking Wireless Routers
When it comes to hacking wireless routers, know that this is not always the easiest task. There are a few things that you will need to be aware of before you will be hacking wireless routers, so listen up.
The only reason that you would be hacking wireless routers is to do something illegal, and so this is obviously the first thing that you need to be aware of. What you should really be doing is learning how to protect your router from hackers, and there are a few steps that you can take to do this.
If you do not have a router then hackers will be able to see your computer on the Internet, and so a computer router is then obviously very important for computer security. By adding a router in your home or office you will be able to create a wall to your computer and the Internet, so this is a necessary step for any computer user.
Besides hacking wireless routers there are also other things that you can do to protect your privacy and security.
Although technically the only surefire way to protect your computer from hackers is to never go on the Internet, because in most peoples cases this is not possible, there are other options. Other than avoiding the Internet, the next big thing you can do is set up a firewall.
A firewall is a secure and trusted machine, one that sits between a private network and a public network and which is used to protect your privacy. The firewall machine is configured with a set of rules that determine which specific network traffic will be allowed to pass and then which will be blocked or refused.
With these quick and easy steps you will be able to set up a great security system for your computer and protect yourself not only from hackers but also from Trojans and other computer viruses and threats.
The most important thing is that you understand just how important an issue hacking wireless routers really is and keep this in mind whenever you are using your computer.

If you want to connect to the Internet and even share a connection among several personal computers connected to a home network you must also find out whether it is possible to connect two wireless routers and if so, how to go about connecting two wireless routers.
Certainly, you will want to add wireless connectivity to your home network if you own a laptop because then you can use your laptop within a certain geographical area without needing to connect the laptop to the modem with wires. Even if you want to connect your PC without wires and then the wireless routers can play an important part.
Simplest Solution
The simplest hardware solution that presents it would be to connect two wireless routers with one router placed with a PC connected to a wired network while the other router is used to connect the personal computer wirelessly. When you do this and connect two wireless routers it is known as an ad hoc wireless network which is well suited for connecting two personal computers.
On the other hand, if you need to connect (wirelessly) more than two PCs and then you will also need an Access Point (AP) that must be wireless or even use a broadband router that is wireless-enabled.
With these items of hardware, you can connect two wireless routers in so many different ways that it would be very difficult to explain all the possible permutations and combinations. Suffice to say that it is possible to use a simple home networking setup that has fully wired as well as wireless capabilities and also use a broadband router that has at least four Ethernet ports as well as integrated wireless connectivity.
A more complicated way of connect two wireless routers is to use a single port broadband router which must be connected to four or even eight port 100 MBps switch that in turn must be connected to a wireless AP.
The minimum cost in terms of money that you will spend in order to connect two wireless routers would be about five hundred dollars which would mean spending in the range of at least one hundred and fifty dollars for a couple of wireless adapters, and another two hundred dollars for a wireless AP plus fifty to hundred dollars for a wireless NIC.
Lastly, when connecting two wireless routers you must also ensure that the configuration is absolutely secure and to prevent unauthorized access you will have to look beyond Wired Equivalency Privacy standard that has thus far proved to be less than successful.

When talking about routers, it is first important to understand why people would want a high efficient router for their computer use at home. A lot of people still think that routers are most commonly used in offices and other workplaces. While it is true that almost all offices and workplaces use routers of some sort or another, more and more people are purchasing and using routers for the personal computer use and there is a very good reason for this.
When computers first started being purchased for home use, most homes only had one computer and the entire family used it. This is mostly because of the price of the computers when they first came out and most families could only afford one computer. This is sort of like when televisions first came out, you could hardly find a home that had more then one television. But now with homes having two, three, and sometimes more computers, many people are turning to d-link routers for their computer servicing needs as they can now connect several computers to one internet connection using these d-link routers.
D-link Routers Versus Other Brands
There is no doubt that d-link routers are not the only routers out there as there are many different brands on the market. But the d-link routers are among the top brands in terms of price and how they function. This is one of the more popular brands for a reason and that is because they are known to work and to work properly with a low rate of mishaps. So it is always worth the time to check into d-link routers when you are in the market for a new router or even for your very first router.
Also, it is important to know that the d-link routers have a very large selection of routers to pick from. This is very important because this means that you have a better chance of finding exactly what it is that you are in need of. It means that you will not run the risk of being forced to pay more for a bigger router then you really need. D-link routers are made while focusing on customer needs and those customers are that of business owners and homeowners alike. Just give them a try and start searching for the perfect routers for your needs, as you cannot seem to go wrong with this brand of routers.

A router is an electronic device that connects a LAN to a WAN and which handles the task of routing messages between the two networks. When a router is used, all Internet traffic passes through it to your LAN or Local Area Network. A router is one of the most important and efficient pieces of computer hardware, and there are even routers available that are also modems firewalls and print servers.
Cable Routers
There are many different types of routers to choose from, cable routers being one of the most popular choices here. If you have high speed cable Internet in your home then most likely you have a cable router. The way that cable routers work is really quite simple.
A cable modem plugs into the cable that comes out from the wall, and then the cable router plus into the modem and transfers the signal to any computers that you have in the home.
There are many benefits offered by these cable routers, one reason being if you have multiple computers. This is because when you have cable routers their signals will not suffer from long range, unless they are wireless. Remember that when you are getting your cable Internet service installed you can ask your installer about which particular cable routers they would recommend.
The Selection
There is quite a selection when it comes to cable routers these days. Keep in mind that when you are out shopping for a cable router you want to consider whether you want a wireless network or to use network cables. This will play a major role in terms of which routers you can choose from. You should also take your budget into consideration here as this too will help to narrow down the selection.
One of the most important steps when choosing a router is to consider the terms of warranty. This is because Internet router manufacturers always provide some sort of warranty package with their equipment, and because the length and terms of these warranties varies so widely.
You should also spend some serious time researching the different models, especially the most popular ones. Word of mouth can also be helpful but make sure that you never rely too much on other peoples opinions because they only go so far. Just because one person liked or disliked a certain cable router this certainly should not be a reason that you are deciding on a particular model.

If you started out your home network system with just one router and now have more devices that need to be connected you may need to have cascading routers. Cascading routers is basically a way of having two routers work together. The best way to have cascading routers is for one to be a wired router and the other to be wireless. This is because you need one router to be very stable and to be capable of doing most of the work. Wireless routers are no good for this; a wired router is the way to go as your main router.
Speed
Your primary router, the wired router, should be a secure one but it may not be the fastest router. Your wireless router will most probably be the faster one here. Though your second router need not be wireless, it can be a wired one too. Though it is important for the primary router to be wired. Choose routers that will give you high network speed and good network features. Otherwise you could be faced with a very slow connection.
Primary Router
When setting up cascading routers make sure that your primary router is the one that manages firewalling, filtering, DHCP, port forwarding, and logging. It is very important that your primary router handles the DHCP. Any ISP configurations, port forwarding and so on that is still on your secondary router needs to be transferred to your primary router.
Optimal Performance
For the best performance you should make sure that both your routers have the same IP block. Otherwise you will have trouble sharing files, and other computers on the same network will not be able to access all the resources on your network.
Secondary Router
As mentioned above you should have disabled things like firewall management and port forwarding on your secondary router. However you should leave a filter on your secondary router, only if it is a wireless router. If it is a wired router than the primary router should handle all filtering.
This keeps out any unwanted spyware or other intrusions on your network. To ensure that both routers can communicate you should add the LAN MAC address of your primary router to your secondary router. When configuring cascading routers you want to make your WAN as useless as possible. So set your WAN to a static IP address. Now you can set up cascading routers at home. It may take a little trial and error but you can do it.
